Public interactive fitness activation system design
This public activation involved the use of fitness machines (4 bikes and 4 steppers) to drive simple visuals and gather movement data to generate donations.
The activation happened over multiple locations in Saudi Arabia.
My job was the system design which involved:
- instrumentation of several fitness machines to gather data
- data gathering and processing in TouchDesigner
- network communication between three local machines
- interactive visuals for each screen in front of the machines reflecting speed/activity and displaying distance/donation data realtime
- accumulating distance/donation over the whole activation event and between locations via simple csv logging mechanism
- displaying accumulated data on main LED screen
- installation and troubleshooting on site for first location in Riyadh, then remotely for others
- speccing and doing this all this within two weeks from zero
This was my first real system design project where my years of working as an engineer has paid off.
